Summer Heat Busting Tips
- Drink lots of water, 2.5l a day if possible
- Promote the circulation of fresh air, open windows/doors
- Keep curtains closed on the sunny side of house to keep the room cool
- Make full use of air conditioning if you are lucky enough to have it!
- Keep a portable fan/handheld close by
- Wear light clothing, white is better than black (dark colours attract the heat)
- When indoors turn electrical items which are not being used off
- Have an air flow from one side of the house to the other
- Avoid spicy food
- Wear light weight clothing, especially light cotton or linen - avoid synthetic materials & trousers or long sleeves
- Protect yourself from the sun's rays by wearing a hat. Don't forget your eyes, avoid the glare by wearing sunglasses
- Where possible sit in the shade or stay under cover
- Avoid excessive physical exercise
- Take a dip, go swimming
- Don't forget that sun cream!
- Cool down by eating ice cream and ice lollies
- Have water by your bed when you sleep, so you don't dehydrate
- Keep cool, ditch the duvet! - a sheet/ thin cover is all you need
- Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm, where it is at its hottest
