Broadband still boomingAccording to a recently published report from the communications regulator, Ofcom, over half of UK adults have a broadband connection at home. The Digital Progress Report looks at the current trends in the broadband industry and provides an interesting insight into our computing habits. Results of the study show an 11 per cent rise in the number of adults who use broadband at home, with 63 per cent of those using it daily. Broadband users spend on average a staggering nine hours a week online, compared with just four hours for dial-up users. The use of voice over IP has also seen increased take-up, with 18 per cent of adults using it at home, compared to 13 per cent this time last year. The report also makes interesting reading in terms of the use of broadband in small to medium sized enterprises. Broadband now accounts for 79 per cent of all SME internet connections and one in ten now uses VoIP. What the study does show is that broadband take up, internet usage and adoption of emerging technologies, are still growing rapidly with no sign of slowing down. | ||||||||||||||||||
