How Spam Is Handled
There is no hard or fast way to determine whether an e-mail is .spam. or not. Our filters perform hundreds of tests on each e-mail, analysing the route the e-mail has taken and its content. The result is a .score.. The higher the score, the more likely the e-mail is spam.
If the score passes a pre-determined threshold, the e-mail is deemed as spam. And put in your .spam. folder, which can be accessed using the Quarantined Mail section in your control panel. We recommend occasional viewing of this page to ensure that genuine e-mails have not been incorrectly detected (a .false positive.). This is rare, but should be the first thing you check if an expected e-mail does not arrive.
Alternatively, you can receive spam with an .extra header. (a message embedded in the e-mail) of .X-Spam: Yes.. This can be used to filter the spam on your server and place it in a folder. You can set this in the Configuration section.
The default threshold for spam scoring is .Extreme. which despite its name has a very low false positive rate. If you find this is capturing .real. e-mails, you can lower it in the Configuration section. Feel free to amend this setting until you find the correct balance.
Whitelists and Blacklists
To ensure certain e-mail addresses (or e-mail domains) are always or never delivered, add entries to your whitelist and blacklist, accessible from the configuration section. Entries on the whitelist are not scanned for spam content and so are always delivered, and blacklist entries are automatically deleted.
