Router - Netgear DG834/DG834G

Troubleshooting

Netgear DG834(G) Router

My router isn't powering on

Check that the power supply is connected between the mains and the routers power port, try another power socket if it's still not powering on then please contact Nildram Support

I can't log into my routers management page

  • Check that your network card is set to 'obtain an IP address automatically'.
  • check the cabling between yourself and the router (if using a hub, remove this and try directly into the router)
  • ensure you're using the correct address to connect to the router (http://192.168.0.1)

I've configured my router but cannot connect

Check your login name and password. The login name must contain the gotadsl.co.uk or dslsurf500.xdsl domain name depending on your service.

Once done, verify you have set the vpi to 0 and the vci to 38. If these settings are all correct then check the i light on the router and ensure its lit. If not then check your cabling and filter setup.

I am running V1.03 and I can't get my VPN connection to work

There is a known issue with this firmware version and VPN functionality. Latest firmware versions, that fix PPTP passthrough issues, can be found at Netgear's site www.netgear.com. Simply go to the downloads link which is found on their home page, select your router type and follow the Upgrade Procedure instructions.

I can't ping my router

Check that you are plugged into the router correctly and using the correct type of network cable, also ensure your network card is properly configured (see the getting started section for help on all of this).

I can't log into my router

All our routers are sent pre-configured and locked for editing. This lock can be removed upon request but once you take control of the device we will no longer support configuration changes.

I can ping my router but can't ping out

This may be because the router isn't connected to the Internet. 1st check that the DSL light on the router is lit. If it's flashing then you may need to check cabling and Microfilter configuration (see Microfilter section for more info).
