SMTP Forwarding

Troubleshooting

I've setup my mail server but people cant see it

  1. If you are using a router that runs NAT then ensure that you have setup a port forwarding (Sometimes referred to as virtual server) rule on your router to forward port 25 traffic to the internal IP address of your mail server.
  2. Check that your mail server is up and responding, you can do this by attempting to telnet to it on port 25 from a local PC. Use your mail server's internal IP address when doing this.
  3. If you are an ADSL user then Nildram block port 25 so you may need to contact us to get this un-blocked. This is not necessary if you are using whitemail.nildram.co.uk as a backup mail server.

My mail server is down. What's happening to my mails?

This depends on how your MX records are setup but if you have setup as instructed in our 'Getting Started' page then your mail will be queued on our server for up to 5 days. When your mail server comes back online, the e-mail will automatically be flushed to your server.
