Getting Started

Please select your operating system from the list below

Win 95

Creating a Dial-Up networking connection

Go to ‘My Computer’, then to 'Dial-Up Networking' and click on 'Make New Connection' to start the following wizard.

Select your modem from the list and type 'Nildram Ltd' as the connection name and click 'Next'

Enter the phone number into the box provided and click 'Next' - you can use any of the following:

Configuring a Dial-Up Networking connection

Go to 'My Computer', then 'Dial-Up Networking', right click on the Nildram icon and go to 'Properties' to start the following wizard. If you wish to make a new connection, please follow the create wizard.

Un-tick 'Use country code and area code' and enter the entire number into the box provided, as above - then click 'Server Type'

Replicate the above settings and click 'TCP/IP Settings'

Enter the DNS server addresses as above and click 'OK'

Your Dial-Up Networking configuration is now complete.

Win 98

Creating a Dial-Up networking connection

Go to ‘My Computer’, then to 'Dial-Up Networking' and click on 'Make New Connection' to start the following wizard.

Enter 'Nildram Ltd' as the connection name and click 'Next'

Enter the phone number into the box provided and click 'Next' - you can use any of the following:

Click 'Finish'. You should now see the Nildram icon within Dial-Up Networking.

Click on the Nildram icon using the right mouse button and select 'Properties' from the drop down menu.

Un-tick 'Use area code and Dialing Properties' and ensure the entire number can be seen in the phone number box (as above)

Then click the 'Server Types' tab.

Make sure the only boxes ticked are 'TCP/IP' and 'Enable software compression', as above

Now click on ‘TCP/IP Settings’ button. The following screen will appear

Check the details are as above

Your PC is now configured to connect to the Internet

Win 2000

Creating a Dial-Up Networking Connection

Go to 'Start', 'Settings' and 'Control Panel', you will see a screen similar to the following

Double click on 'Network and Dial-up Connections', you will see the following

Double click on 'Make New Connection' to start

Click 'Next'

Select the option 'Dial-up to the Internet' and click 'Next'

Select the bottom option, as above, and click 'Next'

Select 'I connect through a phone line and a modem' and click 'Next'

Un-tick the 'Use area code and dialing rules' box and enter the phone number as above

Then click on the 'Advanced' button

Make sure only 'PPP' is ticked, as above, and click 'Addresses'

Enter the Information as shown above and click 'OK'

Click 'Next'

Enter your username and password as on your Nildram Welcome Letter and click 'Next'

Type 'Nildram' as the connection name and click 'Next'

The Dial-Up Networking Connection is now complete - you can continue the wizard to set-up your e-mail account as well

Use this wizard to troubleshoot an existing connection you have made, if you wish to create a new connection, please follow the 'Adding a Connection in Windows 2000' wizard

Go to 'Start', 'Settings' and 'Control Panel', you will see a screen similar to the following

Double click on 'Network and Dial-up Connections' and right click on the connection icon you wish to edit - typically 'Nildram Ltd' - and go to 'Properties'

You will see a screen similar to the following

Un-tick 'Use dialing rules' and enter the phone number into the box provided, as above

Click 'Configure' to see the following

Click 'OK' to back to the previous screen and click 'Options'

Make sure the above is displayed on your machine and click 'Networking' - the 'Security' tab should be the default setting

Click 'Settings'

For best results only tick 'Enable software compression', if you have another box with 'Enable Multilink for Single link Connections' or something similar in it, make sure this is un-ticked

Click 'OK' to return to the previous screen

The main component here is 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' - highlight this in the list and click 'Properties'

For troubleshooting DNS issues you can enter the following DNS server addresses in the appropriate fields
212.139.132.5 or 212.139.132.6
212.139.132.21 or 212.139.132.22

Click Advanced to see the following screen

Make sure your PC settings match the above, click 'DNS'

In order to troubleshoot DNS issues, you can click 'Add' and enter the following DNS server addresses
212.139.132.5 or 212.139.132.6
212.139.132.21 or 212.139.132.22

Click on the 'WINS' tab and ensure it appears as follows

Click 'Options' and make sure it matches the below

And click 'OK', and then 'OK' again to return to the 'Networking' tab in the main connection properties

Click on the 'Sharing' tab to see the following screen

And click 'OK' to finish

Win XP

Creating a Dial-Up connection

To create your Dial-Up Internet connection, go to ‘Control Panel’ and double click on ‘Network Connections

Double click on ‘Create a new connection’

Click ‘next’ on the welcome screen

Choose ‘Connect to the Internet’ and click next

Select ‘Set up my connection manually’ and click next

Select ‘Connect using a dial-up modem’ and click next

Name your connection ‘Nildram’ and click ‘next

Enter one of the below numbers and click next

Enter your Nildram login details and click next

Click Finish to complete the set up

Configuring a Dial-Up connection

To configure your Internet connection, first go to ‘Control Panel’ and double click on ‘Network Connections

Right click on your ‘Dial-Up and select ‘properties

Select the ‘Networking’ tab and then double click on ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’ in the white box

Tick the ‘use the following DNS server address’ tab and specify the addresses as 212.139.132.5 or 212.139.132.6 and 212.139.132.21 or 212.139.132.22

Click ‘OK

Your PC is now configured to connect to the Internet

Win ME

Dial-Up Networking Connection' wizard

Go to 'My Computer', then 'Control Panel' and double click on the 'Dial-Up Networking' icon.

Double click on 'Make New Connection'

You will see a screen similar to the following

Enter the connection name as 'Nildram Ltd' and click 'Next'

Enter the phone number, as above, and click 'Next'. You can use any of the following phone numbers:

Enter the phone number into the box provided and click 'Next' - you can use any of the following:

You may see the above message if Dial-Up Adapter isn't installed, click 'OK' if you do. Otherwise, click ‘Finish

You will now see a Nildram connection icon in Dial-Up Networking

Go to 'My Computer', 'Control Panel' and double click on the 'Dial-Up Networking' icon

Right click on the connection icon you wish to edit (typically 'Nildram Ltd') and click 'Properties'

You will see a screen similar to the following:

Un-tick 'Use area code and Dialing Properties' and enter the entire phone number in the box provided, as above, and click 'Configure'

For troubleshooting purposes it is advisable to lower your modem speed to the closest match in the drop down list, e.g. for 56k, select '57600'

Click the 'Connection' tab, it should read


Click 'Port Settings', the default values are below, however, for a faster connection increase the buffers to maximum, for troubleshooting purposes lower the buffer values

Click 'OK' to return to the previous screen and then click 'Advanced'

You should see a screen similar to that above - settings can differ depending on your modem make and model

For troubleshooting purposes you can enter INIT strings into the 'Extra settings' line, go to your modem manufacturer's site to find out more

Good Generic all round modem strings include:

AT&F
AT&F1

Click 'OK' to return to the previous screen and then click 'Options'
Within Dial-Up Networking, double click on the Nildram icon to connect:

Enter your username and password if you haven't already done so in the 'Security' tab and click 'Connect'

Mac OSX

Create a New Dial Connection

To create a new dial connection follow these simple steps:

On the Toolbar, Select the Apple icon and click on Location followed by Network Preferences

Once the network windows opens select = location.

This will give you the option to create a new location which you need to select.

The following window appears:

Name your new location = Call the location 'Nildram Dial'

Click the OK button to continue.

Show = Select internal modem.

Configure PPP tab as follows:

  • Service Provider = Nildram.
  • Account Name = as found on your welcome letter.
  • Password = Verify the spelling of your password by retyping it.
  • Telephone Number = as found on your welcome letter
  • Check the Save password box. Then select PPP Options tab

The following window is then opened:

Session Options:

When you check the option Connect automatically when needed, your computer will ask you if you want to connect when you click on a TCP/IP application i.e., Mac Mail, Safari, Entourage, etc.

Click the OK button to close the window.

Select the TCP/IP tab.

  • Configure IPv4 = Select Using PPP from the menu.

Select the Modem tab.

Modem = Apple normally assigns this automatically. You'll usually see Apple Internal 56K.

Check the option Enable error correction and compression in modem.

Check the option Wait for dial tone before dialing.

Dialing = This should be set to the type of dialing you get from your telephone company. Most use Tone dialing. Pulse is a bit archaic.

Sound = You can enable/disable the sound your modem makes when connecting to the Internet.

When finished, click the Apply button to save any changes and close the window.
